Seven people were left nursing injuries after two clans clashed during a traditional sacrifice ceremony in Marsabit County.

Marsabit Administration Police Commander Elisha Odhiambo said the clans conflicted over which would slaughter the camel meant to be sacrificed.

Mr Odhiambo said that the two groups used pangas to attack each other leaving seven injured.

“Despite the fact that the ethnic group have it clear that only one clan can slaughter the camel, differences arose as to who would oversee the sacrifice ceremony before they attacked each other with pangas,” said Mr Odhiambo.

The police boss added that there is peace in the area after officers were deployed to quell the violence.

“One of the men who was seriously injured was taken to Marsabit Referral Hospital and is undergoing treatment,” Odhiambo said.

The community practices the ceremony every year where they make sacrifices and pray for their needs.

The ceremony brings together the entire community and every clan is given a role to play when the sacrifice is made.
