It is about time that Inter Milan got to the summit of the Serie A 2019/20 table like they did last weekend. A minor slip up by Juventus was enough to grant the lead to Inter Milan who were more than happy to take it. Now Juventus sit at second place with 36 points one point below Inter Milan. The competition for the cup this season is between those two clubs while the likes of Lazio, Cagliari and AS Roma battle out for a Champions League slot.

The Serie A 2019/20 season enters its matchday 15 in the backdrop of some exciting performances. No one would have thought that under a new manager Inter would transform and be at the top of the table at this point. The top four teams have not lost a single game in their last six fixtures, thus making it easy for prediction purposes and exact score tips.

Serie A 2019/20 matchday 15 predictions

The top four teams will be seeking to keep their momentum, and it won’t be easy for them to drop points this weekend. Their odds may not be attractive, but they are the closest thing to a sure bet one can have. As for the rest of the teams, scenes are chaotic hence one has to look at the current form, injuries and other news before making correct score predictions. Here is Italy Serie A predictions for 2019/20 matchday 15.

1. Inter Milan vs. AS Roma

Giuseppe Meazza will witness the biggest clash of the weekend when Inter and Roma meet. Roma is at number 5 in the table, and they went in as far as the top four race is concerned. Inter, on the other hand, will focus on maintaining their lead. Inter’s last fixture was against a struggling SPAL side, but they will have a bigger fish to fry in Roma this weekend.

Roma needs the three points as much as the league leaders. However, the visitors haven’t been as convincing as Inter this season, and it doesn’t seem like they will stand a chance this weekend. To make matters worse for Roma, they will be on the road, and it is never easy to perform away from home, especially if the other team has the form of Inter. The expert correct score prediction will be in favour of the hosts in this one.

Match prediction: Inter Milan wins

Score prediction: 2-1

2. Atalanta vs. Verona

6th placed Atalanta will be at home when they clash with 9th placed Verona this weekend. It is going to be an uphill task for Verona who have been struggling for consistency lately. Atalanta shook off the 3-1 loss to Juventus when they beat Brescia 3-0 last week. With this momentum and the fact that they will be playing at home, Atalanta has the upper hand and are seen as favourites to win this fixture.

Verona will focus on keeping Atalanta’s Slovenia international Josip Ilicic at bay, knowing that he has netted five goals so far and is finding his form. Verona’s last fixture was a 3-1 loss in the hands of Roma. Due to that, a draw should not be ruled out because the away team will travel with their guns blazing to avoid humiliation.

Match prediction: Draw

Score prediction: 2-2

3. Udinese vs. Napoli

Udinese finds themselves struggling deep in the bottom half of the table at this stage of the competition. The hosts are at number 16 with 14 points from 14 games. They face 7th placed Napoli who have 20 points from the same number of games. Last weekend Udinese were beaten by three goals without a response and their aim this time around will be to get a positive result.

Napoli, on the other hand, has better standings on the table but it is not enough if they want to play Champions League football next season. They need to stop dropping points as they did in the 2-1 loss to Bologna in their last fixture. Udinese will, therefore, be an opportunity for them to make a statement and get back to winning ways.

Match prediction: Napoli wins

Score prediction: 0-1

4. Lazio vs. Juventus

Lazio has been playing above expectations this season and is currently number 3 in the league table with 30 points. However, the hosts have not faced a real challenge like the one that will be presented by Juventus this week. Juventus dropped 2 points last weekend, and they will not be looking to repeat the same mistake if they want to defend their title. Lazio will be hoping that Ciro Immobile continues with his goal-scoring form to lead his side to a victory yet again.

Juventus have been sloppy this season, and they are paying dearly for it. Cristiano Ronaldo has been out of form, and Sarri’s men look like they are fatigued from their Champions League involvement. Since Juventus drew against Sassuolo in their last fixture, they will do all they can to take all the three points. They have the quality to outclass their rivals and for that money should be placed on the visitors to win in what should be a sure win prediction.

Match prediction: Juventus wins

Score prediction: 1-3

5. Lecce vs. Genoa

While both teams find themselves in the bottom half of the table, Genoa needs this win more if they are to move out of the relegation zone. Lecce is also not safe because they are only four points above Genoa, and if they lose this game, they will be staring at the relegation berth. Lecce comes into this fixture from a 1-0 win over Fiorentina and will aim to boost the momentum further.

Genoa has just won once in their last six Serie A fixtures and drawn twice while the other three were losses. Their problems are in the attacking department with a goal drought that has cost them their last two fixtures. This is the point for them to wake up and start getting positive results which is why they will fight to avoid conceding any goals.

Match prediction: Draw

Score prediction: 0-0

6. Sassuolo vs. Cagliari

It is not by luck that Cagliari is number 4 in the league table with 28 points. Out of their last six fixtures, they have drawn two and won four which is a decent record. Sassuolo is at number 14 with 14 points, but they have played one less game. Sassuolo comes straight from a huge win over Juventus and will be in high spirits to keep up the same performance.

Cagliari travels aware that it will not be easy to get a result from the hosts who managed to bag all 3 points from Juventus. However, the visitors have been impressive this season, and with their form, they will not give up to the very last minute of the game. The visitors will be preferred in the Serie A score predictions this week.

Match prediction: Cagliari wins

7. SPAL vs. Brescia

It is a relegation battle that pits together 19th placed SPAL and 20th placed Brescia. SPAL has not won a single game in the last six fixtures, but they have three draws in that period. Brescia has a disastrous record with all their last six games being losses. It is time for redemption for both teams who have 9 and 7 points respectively.

It appears like who will be the first to head to relegation come the end of the season if both teams continue to perform as they have done so far. SPAL has had better performances, and since they will be at home, they have better chances of winning in this one.

Match prediction: SPAL wins

Score prediction: 1-0

8. Torino vs. Fiorentina

Torino and Fiorentina are separated by a single point in the league table. Since both teams are equal in strength and will want to finish the year in the top half of the table, this should be one of the most exciting fixtures of the weekend.

The forms of both teams is wanting with Torino winning just two of their last 6 fixtures while Fiorentina won only 1 in the same number of games. While both teams will probably be on the scoresheet this weekend, a draw is the most likely result going by their recent displays.

Match prediction: Draw

Score prediction: 1-1

9. Sampdoria vs. Parma

Sampdoria and Parma are other teams that have not had the best form this season. Due to their slow start in the campaign, Sampdoria is at number 17 with just 12 points while Parma is at number 8 with 18 points. The aim for Sampdoria will be not to drop any points because if they do, they might end up in the relegation zone.

Parma has been average as compared to their rivals, but recent poor displays have seen them drop points when they shouldn’t have. Given that they will be on the road, it will be hard for them to get a positive result. Sampdoria needs this win more and will give their all for that to happen.

Match prediction: Sampdoria wins

Score prediction: 2-1

10. Bologna vs. AC Milan

The last fixture of matchday 15 is Bologna vs AC Milan at the Stadio San Siro. Both teams have won 2, drawn 1 and lost 2 in their previous 6 fixtures. With those parallel results, they find themselves 12th and 11th in the league table consecutively. With a new manager, Milan is seeking to turn their fortunes and continue with a winning run for them to qualify for European football next season.

Bologna will be at home, but they can’t lose concentration or else they will be punished by their rivals. They aim to continue accumulating points so that they don’t find themselves in the relegation zone at the end of the season. So far so good but the challenge this weekend is not a walk in the park. Both teams will be contented by sharing the spoils, which is what will probably be the outcome at the end of the game.

Match prediction: Draw

Score prediction: 2-2

Serie A 2019/20 is turning to be an exciting adventure with Inter Milan emerging as potential title contenders. Juventus has been struggling and is not scoring goals for fun as previous seasons. The competition is not tight at the top of the table so Juventus may not be out of Champions League football, but they need to do something if they are to defend their title. At the bottom of the table Genoa, SPAL and Brescia seem to have gone to sleep as soon as the season started and will need more than divine intervention for them to avoid relegation.

Europe beckons for South African rugby after Kiwi snub

Published

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Jul 20World Cup-winning Springbok Schalk Brits believes the future of South African rugby lies in Europe after New Zealand said there was no room for sides from the republic in Super Rugby.

“All of this jet lag and flying across different time zones just does not work,” said the hooker who retired after the triumphant 2019 World Cup campaign.

“We have got so many South Africans playing in Europe and it would be awesome to see them in action here for European clubs.”

With New Zealand favouring a trans-Tasman Super Rugby competition, South Africa Rugby chief executive Jurie Roux will address the media Tuesday about the way forward.

There has been no rugby in South Africa since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic, which claimed 5,033 lives by late Sunday, the most in an African country.

Here, AFP Sport looks at the possibilities for the world champions Springboks and Super Rugby teams the Bulls, Lions, Sharks and Stormers.

Rugby Championship

There has been speculation that the six-round annual tournament will be cut to four matches with New Zealand and Australia playing in South Africa only every second year.

That would be a huge blow for SA Rugby coffers as the century-old rivalry with the All Blacks makes them a huge drawcard.

South Africa might consider abandoning the Championship and pursuing a suggestion by former All Blacks Justin Marshall and Jeff Wilson for three-Test tours between the great rivals.

“British and Irish Lions tours are so successful because we look forward to them,” noted another ex-All Black, John Kirwan. The same could be said of an All Blacks-Springboks series.

‘Seven Nations’

Should South African franchises move north, would the Springboks follow suit and apply to join England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales in a ‘Seven Nations’ championship?

Having the world champions on board would surely excite the organisers and costs would be greatly reduced if the Springboks played their three away matches on consecutive weekends.

England, Ireland, France and Wales, in particular, would bring freshness for rugby followers, who have not rushed to the turnstiles for Championship visits by Australia and Argentina.

Ask the SA Rugby treasurer for his ‘dream’ line-up and he would surely say a multi-Test tour by the All Blacks and participation in the ‘Seven Nations’.

Super Rugby

Although not official yet, the reality is that New Zealand want to play some Australian sides and the Pacific Islands in a new competition while excluding South Africa and Argentina.

The original version, a Super 10 between 1993 and 1995, was a superb competition, but constant tinkering and expansion has led to waning interest in a difficult-to-follow event.

Even those supporting the Golden Lions of South Africa could not have derived too much satisfaction from a 94-7 thrashing of Japanese visitors the Sunwolves three years ago.

South Africa sides often battled with time differences in Australasia — New Zealand is 11 hours ahead of the republic — and were weary after four-match tours.

‘Pro16’

Pro14 chief executive Martin Anayi says he would welcome Super Rugby ‘rejects’ the Bulls, Lions, Sharks and Stormers into an expanded edition.

“The tournament works well but could be even better if we added some South African teams,” he said, referring to a competition that also includes Irish, Italian, Scottish and Welsh teams.

But there may be no room for the two current South African Pro14 participants, the Cheetahs and Kings, who have experienced very different fortunes.

While the Cheetahs have been competitive, the Kings won just four of 55 matches in three seasons with some of the losing margins embarrassing.

Currie Cup

The domestic competition has survived constant format changes to remain the vital ‘nursery’ from which Springboks emerge.

First staged in 1892, it was the bedrock of South African rugby until the dawn of professionalism after the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

As Test and Super Rugby fixtures took up an increasing amount of the season, the Currie Cup often battled for calendar space.

But it survived and this year could feature the four Super Rugby sides plus the Cheetahs, Kings, Griquas and Pumas, if play is possible amid the coronavirus.

Four hundred and eight of them were Kenyans and 10 foreigners while male patients numbered 263 and female patients 155.
