At least 83 illegal pharmacies have been closed down in Central and Eastern regions in an operation conducted by inspectors from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

83 illegal operators were also arrested in the swoop after they failed to produce proper documentation.

The one week operation targeting  illegal pharmacies closed down and the operators arrested and arraigned in court in the Lower and upper Eastern regions.

Pharmacy and Poisons Board Officer in charge of Central Region Dr. Tom Mwangi saying the law will ultimately catch up with illegitimate operators.

The Board’s Senior Inspector of Drugs Dr. Julius Kaluai said they intend to eliminate quacks and illegal operators and provide quality standards of service to the public as per the Pharmacy and Poisons Act 2015.

The operation was conducted in collaboration with the National Police Service.
