St Peter’s Mumias punished hosts Kakamega School 3-0 in the opening fixture of the Kakamega County School Games Term Two played before of a packed crowd Tuesday.

Danger man Kato Atem who was part of the Twende La Liga youth team that represented the Chapa Dimba All- Star team in Spain hit a brace while Rodgers Ouma added his name on the scoresheet to silence the Western football giants under head coach Brendan Mwinamo.

The Bernard Onyango coached ‘Saints’ started the match as underdogs having played a second fiddle to their opponents in the last year’s national finals, but that did not play any role as the Mumias West representatives pushed Green Commandos in their half.

St Peters head coach Bernard Onyango hailed his lads for the win.

Kakamega, in their traditional green shirts, were outplayed by the visitors in the entire first half which registered a 2-0 score in the break.

Second half started strongly with Kakamega High putting much of the ball in the Saints box but all efforts not bearing any fruits as the Saints retreated to defend.

As the hosts continued pressing in hunt of an opener, they were caught flat-footed in their penalty area when Kato converted a free kick awarded outside the box sending the travelling fans on their feet.

St Peter’s head coach Bernard Onyango hailed his lads, attributing to the win to better planning and having a knowhow of their opponents.

“We knew we were coming to play against a better team and so we had to prepare efficiently .I want to congratulate Kato who has just come from Spain and you can see the work rate he has had in this match.

“Our focus is to win the nationals and so the county opponents must come prepared to face us,” the former Mumias Sugar FC striker told Citizen Digital after the win.

On the other hand, Kakamega High head coach Brendan Mwinamo refused to comment on the loss, perhaps a sign of shock and disbelief of what he has witnessed at his home turf.

St Peters are in Pool A together with Kakamega High, Lugusi and Lubinu Boys and they face Lugusi in their second match on Wednesday  at 8:00am while Kakamega hope to register their first win when they face Lubinu High at 11:00am.
