Members of Nairobi County Assembly on Tuesday elected Ngara MCA Chege Mwaura as the acting Speaker following the impeachment of Beatrice Elachi.

The MCA defied an order by the Labour Court that had suspended Ms Elachi’s impeachment.

Those who contested for the seat were Ngara MCA and Majority Whip Chege Mwaura, Mary Arivisa and Mary Njambi alias ‘mafirifiri’.

Mr Mwaura was elected unanimously by 84 members present in the Assembly after his competitors withdrew from the race.

His first duty was to adjourn the Assembly until Wednesday 2.30pm.
