St Steven’s Girls Secondary School in Machakos has been closed following an incident where two KTN journalists were attacked and seriously injured.

Officers from the Ministry of Education led by Alice Gichana, the Assistant Director Quality Assurance and Standards, visited the school on Tuesday morning where they held meetings and agreed to release the students for an early half-term vacation.
The students will resume their studies on June 11, this month.

Even after the yesterday heinous attack, KTN Reporter Shadrack Miti established that the school Director was unremorseful and even threatened to attack journalists who had arrived at the school on Tuesday to follow up on the matter.

Journalists present at the school established that parents who had arrived at the school were charged and were ready to attack journalists. It was until police and officers from the Ministry of Education intervened that the second attack was shelved.
Standard Digital has also learnt that the School Director Charles Kioko, tried to frame KTN journalists, attacked on Monday, saying they were asking for bribes.
When asked by journalists to verify his extortion allegations the school Director could not verify the clams.
The school principal, John Musyoki was on Tuesday charged before a Machakos court with assault, malicious damage to property, arson and incitement to violence at Chumvi area within Machakos County on June 3, 2019.
Senior Principal Magistrate, Evans Keago ordered Musyoki to pay Sh1 million bond and a surety of the same amount.
He also directed that the principal be remanded in police custody until June 18, when the case will be mentioned.?
