National soccer team Harambee Stars will play against Burundi in the first round of the 2020 Africa Nations Championships East African zone qualifiers.

This is after Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the draw that will see 47 teams contest for 15 slots to the championship that will be held in Ethiopia.

The East African Zone will thus see eight nations: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan, Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan and Somalia, battle it out for two slots reserved for the region.

Ethiopia, meanwhile, has been granted automatic qualification by virtue of being the event’s hosts.

Kenya will play Burundi in the first round while Tanzania will lock horns with Sudan. Somalia will take on Rwanda while Uganda will battle it out with South Sudan.

The qualifiers’ dates will be announced by CAF in due course.

The tournament, whose first edition was held in 2009, is reserved exclusively for players featuring in their respective national leagues.

Democratic Republic of Congo won the inaugural edition after beating Ghana by two goals to one in the final.

Kenya was bundled out of the contest by Tanzania in the group stages of the previous edition.
