The evergreen Swamibapa opening batsman Irfan Karim on Saturday knocked a half a century as his team beat Stray Lions by 50 runs in Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) Super Division Twenty20 league match played at Peponi School, Ruiru.

Karim scored 61 runs off 33 deliveries with seven boundaries and four sixes, the highest for Swamibapa.

Batting first, Swamibapa set a target of 174 in their allotted 20 overs for the loss of six wickets. Alex Obanda (24 off 13 balls with three boundaries), Mitesh Sanghani who was unbeaten on 45 that came off 34 balls with four boundaries and James Ngoche with a run a ball 31 that included a boundary were Swamibapa’s batsmen who posted meaningful runs on the scoreboard.

Lions’ wickets were shared among Nehemiah Odhiambo (2/30), Shem Ngoche (2/30) and Nadeem Ahmed (2/33).

Lions were dismissed for a paltry 123 with nine balls in hand. Rajiv Sutaria was Lions top scorer with 42 runs off 37 balls with two boundaries and same number of sixes. Himanshu Dixit (19 off 15 balls with two boundaries) and Shaishav Patel (15 off 15 balls with a boundary and a six) were Lions’ batsman who posted double digit figures on the scoreboard.


Swamibapa’s wickets were taken by Jadavji Bhimji (3/13), Lameck Onyango (3/24) James Ngoche (2/28), Emmmanuel Bundi (1/17) and Sanghani (1/17).

Elsewhere, Kanbis (71 for 1 in 5.3 overs) beat Cutchi Leva (70 all out in 17.5 overs) by nine wickets at Eastleigh High School. Ngara (75 all out in 17.5 overs) beat Ruaraka (68 all out in 18 overs) by seven runs.

Nairobi Gymkhna (137 for 6 in 19.2 overs) beat Kongonis (136 for 5 in 20 overs) by four wickets at Nairobi Gymkhana ground and Obuya Academy (108 for 7 in 20 overs) beat Sikh Union (103 for 9 in20 overs) who were at home by five runs.
