Nairobi county government has bought more garbage skips to clan up filth.
Environment director Lawrence Mwangi told the Star yesterday that the metallic skips had arrived and will be distributed in estates and Kariakor, Kariobangi, Dandora and Kawangware markets.
He did not say how many were procured. “We get huge garbage deposits from estates and markets The skips have a higher holding capacity than the normal bins, “ he said.
In October, Sh37.5 million was set aside to purchase 150 garbage skips. At least 20 of the skips were distributed to Muthurwa, Burma and City markets. Around 2,000 tonnes of garbage are collected daily.
For the past five months, residents have been participating in the monthly clean-up in efforts to tackle the garbage menace, apart from this month.
