Muthaiga Golf Club’s Greg Snow finally moved to the top of the leaderboard despite firing one over par 73 in the second round of the on-going Prime Bank Diani Beach Masters at the par 72 Leisure Lodge Golf and Beach Resort Club course on Saturday.

Starting day two in second place, Snow made three bogeys at the first, fourth, and sixth before recovering one shot at the par five-ninth. The back nine was equally a tough one for Snow but he managed to pick up birdies on the 12th, 17th and 18th after bogeying the 10th and 16th, to grab a one shot lead from day one leader Justus Madoya who carded three over par 75 for a two days total of 146.

Madoya made only one birdie at the fourth hole though he dropped a shot soon after and later on at the ninth. He made seven pars and two bogeys at the 15th and 17th.

“My game is fine, I just made some few bad putts that is all. I have been practising hard to get my game where I wanted it to be, and I am glad it has started paying off,” said Madoya, who will be in the company of Snow in the third and final round where the 21 surviving pros who made the second round cut will be battling it out for the top cash prize of Sh135,000.

The 21 pros who made include Kenya Railway Golf Club’s Alfred Nandwa who also posted one over par 73 to tie for the third place with three others on 149. Nandwa birdied the fourth and 16th with bogeys on the sixth, ninth, 10th, 12th, and a double at the 13th.

Others on 149 were David Wakhu of Golf Park, Muthaiga’s Frank Matilo and Riz Charania of Windsor. All of them carded 74 in the second round where Wakhu’s score included birdies at the fifth and 18th.

Of the visiting pros, only Zimbabwe’s Kayyam Mandhu made the second round cut after firing one under par 71 for 153, tying with four others including the long-hitting Dismas Indiza, who recovered from a first round 71, to post level par 72.

This year, besides the main sponsors Prime Bank, the Diani Beach Masters which was first held 1998, has attracted others sponsors such as SKF, Base Titanium, Diani Hardware and General Stores, Toyota, Crown Paints, Nature’s Cool, Diani Sea Resort, Multiple Hauliers, Diani Beach Hospital, AAR Healthcare, Heritage Insurance, among many others.
