Migori Governor Okoth Obado will also be charged with the murder of the unborn baby of slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

The prosecution proposed on Tuesday that the Governor should be charged with two counts of murder since Sharon’s baby, a seven-month infant was confirmed to be his through DNA verification.

State lawyer Alexander Muteti argued this on the premise that life begins at conception, and therefore the baby’s life was cut short when the mother was brutally murdered.

Autopsy results

According to autopsy results conducted by government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduorhe, Sharon was stabbed three times on the neck, four times on the back and on the left side of the abdomen leading to the death of her baby.

Sharon’s baby was burried on September 14, in her grandfather’s home in accordance with the customs and norms of the Luo community.

In an affidavit filed in court by the prosecution, Senior investigation officer from the homicide unit, Clement Mwangi said there is likelihood of Governor Obado intimidating key witnesses should he be released on bail.

“The release of the accused person on bail pending hearing and determination of the trial is not absolute and is at the discretion of the court,” Mwangi says.

Mr. Mwangi further indicated that investigations are yet to be finalised and that investigators will be proceeding back to Migori County offices for further investigations which include interrogating Obado’s close family members, and county officials.
