Farmers will be issued an e-fertilizer voucher in order to access the subsidized fertilizer in future.
This is part of the government’s ambitious 10 year ambitious 400 billion shillings agriculture transformation strategy that is expected to eliminate traders from the subsidized fertilizer programme.
The government is still non-committal on the availability of subsidized fertilizer for the next planting season saying its yet to renew a contract with the company that provided the subsidized fertilizer after the three year contract elapsed.
However, Agriculture Cabinet Administrative Secretary Andrew Tuimor says, in future registered farmers will be issued with an e-fertilizer voucher in order to access the subsidized fertilizer as the government seeks to eliminate malpractices.

This is under a new 10-year agricultural transformative strategic plan that will see the government restructure the strategic grain reserve to make it more efficient through a public private partnership.
The Agricultural Transformative Strategic Plan also seeks to raise annual small scale farmer income to 625 shillings a day from the current average of 465 shillings a day.
Tumuir also dismissed claims by a section of maize farmers on unfair NCPB allocations saying the formula was arrived at, after consultations with relevant stakeholders including farmers representatives.
