– Explosions were heard coming from the business centre moments before the fire broke out
– Property of unknown value including motor vehicle bazaars, offices and restaurants were destroyed
– City Hall managed to deploy four firefighting vehicles to the scene despite encountering heavy traffic
Tenants are still counting huge loses after a fire broke out at the iconic nine-storey Malik Heights building located on the usually busy Ngong Road, Nairobi
The inferno broke out on the night of Monday, June 3, at around 8pm and destroyed property of unknown value.
Reports reaching TUKO.co.ke indicated the inferno, whose cause was not immediately clear, destroyed motor vehicle bazaars, offices, restaurants and several other commercial premises within the building.
Unconfirmed reports indicated some pockets of explosions were heard coming from the business centre moments before the Monday night blaze.
Nairobi county government immediately deployed four firefighting vehicles to the scene.
However, only two of the fire engines made it to the scene, and this was because the other two were caught up in heavy traffic and could not access the business complex soon enough according to City Hall.
No casualties had been reported as of Tuesday morning hours after the fire incident.
Malik Heights which has been open since 2017 houses major business premises worth several millions of shillings in investment.
